« The dialkylcarbonate route to ionic liquids: purer, safer, greener? » published in Green Chemistry
Our Tutorial Review is published in Green Chemistry !
It deals with the dialkylcarbonate route used to synthesize ionic liquids.
The ionic liquids are often presented as « green alternatives » to usual solvent, thanks to their stabilities, recyclability, and their very low vapor pressure. But their classical synthesis are not sustainable, because of the use of toxic alkylating agents, and of the large amount of waste produced.
The dialkylcarbonate route appears as a real green alternative to the classical synthesis, using harmless alkylating agents, and generating very few waste.
